Special Response Team

In 2000 MPD instituted a special response tactical team. Officers were trained for critical incidents that are beyond the capabilities of normally equipped and trained police officers such as:

  • Terrorist activities
  • School shootings
  • Hostage situations
  • Executing search warrants
  • Barricaded persons
  • Suicidal persons
  • Counter sniper OPS
  • Surveillance
  • Violent criminal arrests
  • VIP security

K-9

Since 1998, MPD has utilized a K-9 unit, Gino. Gino was trained and is tested annually by the Illinois State Police Academy. His handler is Officer Terry Hepner. Officers Hepner and Gino patrol nightly and are used for special details such as tracking, search warrants, and drug searches. Gino is an excellent officer and has aided the MPD with several cases over the years.

Bike Patrol

Bike patrol is a new program being instituted by MPD. Officers will be able to patrol more efficiently during special events where there is a high concentration of pedestrians such as Monmouthfest, Maple City Cruise Night, and the Prime Beef Festival. Police Cyclist will also be used for special details including surveillance and alcohol and tobacco compliance checks.

Monmouth Fire Department

The Monmouth Fire Department was established in December 1855, and currently has 15 paid career members and 10 volunteer firefighters. They respond to 1200 calls per year and protect 10,000 citizens in the City of Monmouth. Operating out of two fire stations, both in the City of Monmouth, the department has an ISO rating of 5.
